It may only be October, but the holiday season is quickly approaching. While many consider it the “most wonderful time of the year,” others are only given gifts of trepidation.

Nearly nine out of 10 U.S. adults said they feel overwhelmed during the season. From financial concerns to anticipating family conflict, the holiday pressures can quickly overshadow the joy and excitement.

So, before the season comes into full swing, let’s create a plan to navigate holiday stress, so you can enjoy the festivities with peace of mind, focusing on what truly matters to you.

Step 1: Set Boundaries

Your top priority during the holiday season should be your own well-being. You don’t need to attend every event or fulfill every request. Give yourself permission to say no when needed.

Step 2: Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation

Try mindfulness techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to stay grounded. Even a few minutes a day can help reduce stress.

Step 3: Stick to a Budget

Finances are one of the biggest stressors during the holidays. Create a budget for gifts, activities, and events. Stick to your budget, shop sales, use coupons, and pay with cash or debit to avoid holiday strain.

Step 4: Plan Ahead and Stay Organized

Create a schedule for shopping, family gatherings, and holiday preparations to avoid any last-minute chaos. Keeping a clear plan can reduce feelings of overwhelm.

Step 5: Limit Social Media and Screen Time

Constant exposure to holiday posts and expectations can fuel anxiety and feelings of comparison. Take regular breaks from social media and limit screen time to stay present and avoid unnecessary stress. Focus on meaningful, real-life connections instead.

Navigating the holiday season can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. The “giving season” isn’t just about giving to others but also about giving to yourself. By focusing on your own happiness, practicing mindfulness, and sticking to a plan, you can find balance and joy during this busy time.

Take control of the season and make it one that leaves you feeling fulfilled, not frazzled. For more tips and inspiration on living your best life, follow us on Instagram for all things health, beauty, wellness, and fitness!
